What are “presuppositions”?

In a word, in hypnotic language, it is the part of the sentence that presupposes some information that has come true. The rest of the sentence is based on it. It is quite a useful tool in negotiation. When used poorly – i.e., without sensitivity – it can also be annoying to the person across from you.

What are the presuppositions of NLP?

There are several presuppositions, which are central principles of NLP; they are its guiding philosophy, its “belief.” These principles are not appealed to be factual or universal. You don’t have to believe them to be true. They are named presuppositions because you presuppose them to be correct and then act as if they were true. If you like the results, continue acting as if they are real.

They form a set of moral principles for living your life.

  • The ability to change how we process experience in our reality is more valuable than changing the content of our experience.
  • The meaning of any communication is the response you get. This puts the responsibility of delivering your message directly to your door; you cannot blame others if your communication is not understood.
  • By using our senses, sight, hearing, taste, smell, and intellect, we make a difference in our behavior and the environment in which we perceive our world.
  • The resources we need to make the change are already within us.
  • The map is not a territory: for example, if you book a vacation from a flyer, you will see a description of the place and event, but the brochure is not the holiday. The holiday is the road you go to have experience.

You respond according to your world map, the map you keep in your head that creates your beliefs, values, attitudes, memories, and cultural background.

  • It is not what you do but who you are. NLP always seeks to maintain a person’s self-worth while questioning the value and appropriateness of their internal and external behavior.
  • Even when others think it is not, there is a positive intention behind every behavior. NLP separates the intent or purpose behind an action from the action itself. A person is not their behavior. When a person has a better choice of behavior that also achieves their positive intention, they do it.
  • No failure, only feedback.
  • All outcomes and behaviors are what you have achieved, whether or not they are desired outcomes for a particular task or context. If they differ from the above, try these on for size and see, hear and feel if they suit you better.
